December 31, 2008. Nora Jones (nee Bawden) was on BBC Radio Cornwall this month! She writes that a few weeks ago I found a link for 'Sing Christmas' in Cornwall on the BBC Cornwall Website. I sent an email and oined up with 1,000 others in Cornwall on the 22nd for a Christmas carol sing-a-long put together by he Methodist church in Devon. Then yesterday BBC Cornwall called me and did a live nterview with me over the phone!
It was a network of people and venues across the Southwest of England who participate in a Christmas carol sing-along hosted by the Methodist Church in Plymouth. They had a program, lyrics, and special events information one could download on their site. All-in-all over 1,000 participated from Devon, Cornwall, Ireland, New Zealand, and of course the USA. I logged on to the BBC Cornwall on the 22nd and sang along, watched services and skits, which was fun. Then shortly afterward, the BBC called and asked to interview me. They had called several others; the one I did get to hear while I was waiting to be interviewed was from a Devon transplant in New Zealand who was now running a Bed and Breakfast there. My turn came and they asked where I was calling from, and how I got on with the sing-along. I shared how it went and how my father was from Camborne, etc, explains Ms. Jones.
